The Facts About Charging Your Cell Phone

8/20/2023
So we all have our opinions about how to best charge our cell phone.
-Some like to never let the battery get very low.
-Some never charge all the way to 100%.
-Some don’t like to keep it plugged into the charging system.

Here is what the experts say at Apple: UNFORTUNATELY NOT MUCH.

On Apple's website on 8/19/2023 for “Maximizing Battery Life and Lifespan”, they don’t give direct advice. They say “Update to the Latest Software”, “Optimize Your Settings”, “Enable Low Power Mode”, and “View Battery Usage Information”. That’s it! Although it is helpful - it doesn't really tell us the best way to keep our battery lasting the longest. Most people want to know more...

Apple doesn’t directly answer the questions:

  • Should I always charge my phone to 100%?
  • Should I use my phone until the battery is down to 20%
  • Should I keep it plugged in overnight?
Those are the questions I want answers for.

I went searching for some geeks that have already figured it out for us. The findings were a bit mixed, but there was some consensus when I did this research in August 2023.

After A Lot Of Research - Here is What I Found:

#1 - You should try to keep your device between 40% and 80% battery as much as possible to preserve your Phone's battery health.
#2 - Don't Leave Your iPhone Without Charge for Too Long
#3 - Don't Leave Your iPhone Charged Overnight at 100%
