Blog Overview

I started blogging again in July 2023 after some job changes and my children growing up which gave me a lot more discretionary time. I do this for me, but I hope some others find my posts interesting or useful in some way.

These days I have more discretionary time to spend on my hobbies, which as you know, includes Gardening. Last year was just okay, with an overall good harvest, but I didn't spend as much time in the garden as I wished I had, and my planning was a bit off-the-cuff, so I have corrected that this year as we look towards my 2025 Garden.

Seed Planting List

I started 72 seeds last night, and realized it would be a good idea to make a list as I am not only starting seeds for myself, but to also give some away to family and friends. Here is the list I came up with.

Plan for my Main Raised Garden Bed

Here is my list of emitters from my watering system, and my plant for what to plant there. I will improve this Excel Sheet at some point, but it helped me get over the hump to figure out exactly what I am going to plant where, and the quantities of the seeds I should start immediately.

Plan for South Bed

Last year I experimented a bit, growing Okra for the first (and last) time. I also had way too much zucchini and yellow squash going, so I knew this year I was going to cut that back a bit. So I needed a plan, and here it is:

I Planted 76 Seeds, 87 More to Go!

I planted Peppers, Zucchini, and Yellow Squash. I hope to do the rest tonight.

My New Seed Company - Le Jardin du Gourmet

I am giving this company a try and so far I am Very Happy! I was looking for a better source of seeds other than the big box stores or expensive nurseries and I found this company in December. We will see how the germination goes.

Low Prices, and a Moderate Variety

I was able to get nearly all I wanted for my spring and summer gardens. I hope this will work out good and that they will be my permanent seed-supplier.

Vegetable Seed Categories

They don't carry everything and many different varieties, but they do carry a bit of most vegetables.

California Wonder

My California Wonder packet had about 35 seeds, probably enough for the average gardener. I plant A LOT of these, so I had some more seeds from last years seed packet.

Tomatoes

I wish I had tried Tomatillo to compare with my Super Sweet 100 Go-To that I plant every year.

Markers

To help my planning and marking - I bought some flags and plastic plant labels. Even though I am cutting back on my plastic - the benefits from this outweighed my desire to cut back, so I went ahead with this. Last year it really sucked when I wasn't sure which tomatoes were which. This year I will not make that mistake again, and I am also trying many other varieties of cucumbers and yellow squash.
