The world today is shaped by six generations, each influenced by unique events, technologies, and values. From those who grew up during the Great Depression to those born into the age of artificial intelligence, each generation brings its own story and perspective on life.
Now in their 80s and 90s, the Silent Generation grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. They are known for frugality, loyalty, and discipline. Many contributed to civil rights, early feminism, and the rebuilding years after the war. Stability, hard work, and respect for institutions define their values.
Born after World War II, Baby Boomers grew up during a period of economic prosperity and cultural change. They experienced the Vietnam War, civil rights movements, the space race, and the rise of rock ’n’ roll. Often seen as hardworking and goal-oriented, Boomers now make up much of the retirement generation.
Often called the “Latchkey Generation,” Gen Xers were raised in an era of dual-income households and rising divorce rates. They witnessed the Cold War’s end and the dawn of personal computing. Independent, adaptable, and pragmatic, Generation X bridges the gap between analog and digital worlds.
The first generation to grow up with the Internet, Millennials came of age during 9/11, the Great Recession, and the rise of smartphones and social media. They value purpose, flexibility, and balance over rigid career paths, and are often seen as tech-savvy and socially conscious.
True digital natives, Gen Zers have never known a world without smartphones, streaming, or social media. They are diverse, globally connected, and vocal about mental health, social justice, and the environment. Entrepreneurial and creative, they blur the line between online and offline identities.
Generation Alpha is the first to be born entirely in the era of artificial intelligence, smart devices, and on-demand everything. They are growing up surrounded by voice assistants, tablets, and personalized learning. Their defining cultural moments are still unfolding, but technology will likely shape their worldview from the very start.
